How to Charge Water with Energy: The Bengston Method and Other Techniques
Water has long been recognized as a substance capable of holding and transmitting energy. From ancient rituals to modern energy healing methods, practitioners have used water’s unique properties to enhance healing. In this article, we explore two powerful methods for charging water: a traditional, magical approach and the Bengston Energy Healing Method using Image Cycling.
Why Charge Water?
Charging water with “healing information” creates a type of “medicine” that may enhance healing. This process infuses water with energetic qualities that can positively affect health and well-being. Charged water can be consumed by the person charging it or given to someone else.
The Theory Behind Energetically Charged Objects
Objects around us, including water, absorb the energies they are exposed to. This idea is not new. Throughout history, certain places, objects, and substances have been valued for their ability to hold and transfer energy.
For example:
-
Psychometry: A psychic holding your keys may sense information about you because the keys have absorbed your energy.
-
Thrift Store Vibes: Sometimes you feel a strong negative “vibe” from an object and avoid buying it.
-
Holy Water: Water blessed by a priest or taken from a sacred spring is believed to carry healing or protective properties.
-
Sacred Sites: Temples and natural formations can hold the intentions of visitors over time, creating energetic imprints.
-
Dust: Linda Thomas, author of Cleaning Has Meaning, worked in hospice as a housekeeper. She could often sense when a patient was near death just by observing the dust in the room.
Objects like cotton, water, and even dust are highly receptive. They can be infused with energy for healing purposes. Charging water is one of the simplest ways to explore this.
Science and Energetically Charged Water
Masaru Emoto’s Water Experiments
Masaru Emoto, a Japanese researcher, explored how human consciousness might affect water. In his experiments, water was exposed to thoughts, words, and music. The water was then frozen and examined under a microscope.
He reported that positive words like “love” or “gratitude” produced symmetrical crystals. Negative words like “hate” created irregular and disordered shapes.
Support and Popularity
Emoto’s work has gained attention in spiritual and alternative healing communities. Many people find his results compelling and use them as a basis for personal experimentation.
Criticism and Scientific Scrutiny
However, his research has been widely criticized. Critics note a lack of proper controls, repeatability, and rigorous methodology. His findings have not been consistently validated in peer-reviewed research.
Personal Experience
If you are unsure what to believe, you can rely on your own experience.
The Rice Experiment
A simple way to observe the effect of intention is through a rice experiment:
-
Place equal portions of cooked rice into two identical glass jars.
-
Lightly cover the jars and observe them over several days or weeks.
-
Speak kindly to one jar each day.
-
Speak harshly to the other or ignore it.
Bonus: Add a third jar. Hold it daily while performing Bengston Image Cycling.
Observe how each jar changes over time. Take notes on your observations and impressions. You can also share your results in my Spirit Gate Cancer Support Facebook Group.
The Memory of Water Hypothesis
The “memory of water” theory suggests that water can retain information from substances once dissolved in it. This idea gained attention in the 1980s through research published in Nature by Jacques Benveniste.
However, follow-up studies failed to reproduce the results reliably.
Because of the controversy, I tend to rely on direct observation and personal experience. Some placebo-controlled studies suggest homeopathy can be effective, although the mechanism remains unclear.
Even if the memory of water is only a metaphor, I find it useful. It helps me remain open to observation without prematurely dismissing what I experience.
As an acupuncturist since 1980, I have seen enough to know that energy therapies can be powerful.
Electromagnetic Fields and Water
Some studies suggest that electromagnetic fields can influence water and biological systems. Certain frequencies may affect biological processes, although this research is still developing.
The field remains complex and not fully understood. It is also influenced by funding and political dynamics.
Bengston Method and Water
William Bengston’s research focuses on energy healing and tumor regression in mice. His work demonstrates significant results, including distant healing effects.
While his primary research is not focused on water, he has explored storing healing information in it.
Relevant studies include:
-
A double-blind, placebo-controlled trial on COVID patients using informed water
-
Replication studies on device-infused resonant water
-
Clinical social experiments in Europe
-
Early energized water studies
These suggest that water may store healing information and could allow for scalable healing methods.

Holy Water
There is no widely accepted scientific evidence supporting holy water as a healing agent. Its effects are primarily based on spiritual tradition and personal experience.
However, many people report meaningful benefits, which may involve psychosomatic or other mechanisms.
Placebo Effect and Psychosomatic Healing
The placebo effect is well documented. People can experience real improvements even when a treatment has no known active ingredient.
Bengston challenges the idea that placebo is driven only by belief. In his animal research, mice showed healing responses without belief or expectation.
This suggests that other mechanisms may be involved, possibly including resonance or energetic interaction.
Quantum Biology and Water
Quantum biology explores how quantum processes may influence living systems. This includes areas like enzyme activity and photosynthesis.
While the idea that water can store healing information through quantum mechanisms is still theoretical, it remains an area of interest.
Two Methods for Charging Water
The Intention / Prayerful Method
-
Hold the Water: Hold the glass with your palm fully touching it. Avoid directing energy forcefully.
-
Baseline Taste: Taste the water before beginning.
-
Prayer or Visualization: Offer a prayer or visualize healing energy entering the water.
-
Notice the Change: Taste again after about a minute and observe any differences.
-
Optional Enhancements: Crystals, herbs, or affirmations can be included.
This method emphasizes presence, intention, and connection.
The Bengston Method
-
Taste the Water: Establish a baseline.
-
Hold the Glass: Maintain relaxed contact with the glass.
-
Cycle: Perform Image Cycling while holding the water.
-
Distraction: Do not focus on the water. Let the process remain passive.
-
Notice the Change: Taste again after a few minutes.
This method relies on indirect influence rather than active intention.
Which Method Is Right for You?
Both methods can be effective but operate differently.
The intention method uses focused awareness and deliberate input.
The Bengston Method uses detachment and indirect influence.
With experience, you may develop a preference or use both depending on context.
Conclusion
Charging water may be more impactful than it first appears. Water can act as a carrier for subtle influences and reflect your interaction with it.
If water can hold and transmit information, it raises broader questions about how we interact with the world.
Experiment with both methods and observe your results. Pay attention not only to physical changes but also to your perception and awareness.
