Bengston Method Review

Does the Bengston Method Really Work? My 20-Year Review

Hello, I’m Suzanne Clegg, RDN, LAc, and I’m excited to share my 20-year journey with the Bengston Method—a healing technique that has reshaped my understanding of health, the mind, and the body’s ability to heal.

In this Bengston Method Review, I’ll walk you through:

  • My personal mentorship with William Bengston, Ph.D.
  • How I overcame early struggles with Image Cycling
  • How does my approach remove obstacles to learning the Bengston Method and its effectiveness?
  • How to combine the Bengston Method with other healing modalities.
  • Why expert guidance can make all the difference

How I Met William Bengston & Why I Needed His Guidance

In 2009, while he was writing The Energy Cure, I asked Bill Bengston to personally mentor me. I had known him socially since 1994 through my husband, who worked alongside Bill at St. Joseph’s College. I had followed his groundbreaking cancer research and admired his paradigm-shifting approach. I also attended parties and met the people he had cured. I heard about the struggles he had getting his research acknowledged.

At the time, I was already an accomplished acupuncturist, nutritionist, herbalist, and senior faculty member at the Acutonics Institute of Integrative Medicine. Despite this background, I wasn’t achieving the consistent results that Bengston was with cancer patients. Not even close. Acupuncture, body-mind-spirit Shamanism, sound healing, and hands-on healing would bring comfort to my patients, but the cancers marched on. While these modalities provided relief, they did not stop the underlying progression of the disease. Seeking a deeper understanding of effective healing methods, I decided to request direct training from Bill Bengston.

Why the Bengston Method Challenged Everything I Knew

Mastering how to manage a naturally healing cancer involved much more than simply touching someone while Image Cycling. Some key questions I had to navigate included:

  • How do I tell if it is working?
  • How do I tell if my client is cycling well enough?
  • How many treatments and how often?
  • How long is a session?
  • What does a healing tumor feel like under my hand?
  • What if the tumor is deep, and I can’t palpate it?
  • What to do if my client feels worse
  • How to navigate a healing tumor growing before it shrinks and distinguish that from the treatment simply not working?

Between being mentored by Bengston and my own subsequent clinical experience, I have learned that Image Cycling is just one small aspect of my work. The real challenge lies in understanding how to manage and monitor a naturally healing cancerous tumor effectively.

What I Had to Unlearn: Key Lessons from My Mentorship with William Bengston

I had to unlearn many of my preconceived notions about energy healing. Here are the three main shifts I had to make:

1. Stop directing Qi and instead, simply watch what my technique is doing.

This was counter-intuitive because my “superpower” as a healer and acupuncturist was to manipulate the Qi of the body to promote healing. It was like I was beginning again. I had always given lip service to my patients being their own “healer,” but I didn’t know how to get out of the way and respectfully witness that occurring in my patient until I mentored with Bengston.  As much as I enjoy being the powerful “in-charge” healer, it’s

I learned how to embrace open-minded skepticism and how to coach religious and non-religious clients to do the same. Now I can sense if a person’s belief is helping them resonate with what they want, or if it is stopping the healing they so desperately desire.

This is a Taoist concept that had eluded me as an acupuncturist and Chinese Medicine expert. The Bengston Method literally engineers this stance into its functioning. The act of hypercycling while connecting with a patient creates this powerful inner gesture. It’s pure genius! No other energy-healing system has this installed at such a concrete level—no enlightenment is required (whew!)  Paradoxically, the very moral development that religions admonish people to cultivate so that they can heal often emerges spontaneously as one engages with the Bengston Method. People forgive their parents, their ex’s, and become more positive, patient, kind, reliable, etc.

Developing My Own Approach

After a year or so of bringing my patients to Bill and holding clinics in my office, I gradually realized I no longer needed his direct guidance.

I started instinctively responding to a patient’s needs without second-guessing myself or feeling the need to consult Bill. It was a subtle yet profound shift—I had internalized the principles and could confidently navigate the healing process on my own.

The transition was organic. At first, I would seek his input frequently. I was so nervous! People’s lives were in my hands! Over time, I found confidence in my ability to navigate the healing process independently. I would tune in to him clairvoyantly, ask him a question (with his conscious consent), and receive insightful advice.

I then moved on to intuitively communicating with what I perceived as a guiding consciousness behind the healing process—an intelligence beyond traditional understanding that seemed to provide insights uniquely relevant to my way of engaging with the Bengston Method. This influenced my ability to tailor the technique to individual cases, adding depth to my practice in ways that went beyond what I had learned from Bengston himself. While this was my personal approach, I recognize that Bengston himself does not describe his method in these terms.

When I developed this personal connection to the Bengston Method, my confidence really started maturing, as the answers to how to help each situation were right there, just for the asking. This connection has remained consistent with Bengston’s 4-word instruction manual: Be Playful! Avoid Ritual!

I also train my clients to move beyond “doing it right” to “making it their own,” drawing from my lifetime of experience as a holistic health professional, philosopher, and therapist.

One of my greatest pleasures is to be present with a naturally healing tumor. While others may fear it, I embrace the opportunity to assist, knowing how to help and finding myself replenished in the process.

I Integrate the Bengston Method with Other Energy Healing Practices

  • Chemotherapy, Radiation and Immunotherapy
  • Prayer.
  • Acupuncture
  • Acutonics Sound Healing
  • Meditation
  • Reiki
  • Joe Dispensa
  • Neville Goddard
  • Shamanism
  • Psychotherapy, psycho-spiritual counseling, guided visualization, crystal healing, New German Medicine, ancestral work, soul retreats, rituals, nutrition protocols, and numerous other modalities that have been associated with cancer cures or spontaneous cancer remission.

It can be tricky to integrate the Bengston Method with other disciplines as it is inherently more neutral than they are. I’ve learned how to tell if the combination enhances or dilutes the effectiveness of either approach.

Often, my clients are already really invested in other ways of treating their illness, but they are impressed by Bengston’s 18+ peer-reviewed university experiments showing complete cancer cures in mice. We work together to observe what is happening so we don’t have to believe or disbelieve to heal.

I’ve seen many people attempt various holistic cancer therapies, and I share my experience to help them navigate these options. I’ve observed some approaches “work” and others “not work.” While I appreciate the rigorous research behind the Bengston Method, I prioritize ensuring my patients make informed decisions. If a modality is safe and potentially beneficial, I help them assess its effectiveness, seek appropriate medical supervision, or recognize when it may not be worth their efforts.

Just as I don’t want my patients to blindly believe in the Bengston Method, I don’t want them to do that with any other approach. Let’s stick to the facts—whether they are physical, life-force-based, emotional, image-driven, or spiritual phenomena. While I emphasize facts on the physical end of the spectrum, I also recognize that the more subtle aspects often serve as the guiding force in the healing process and are also important.

Overcoming Barriers of Time, Money, and Distance

Distance Healing

People used to travel to my office and stay at hotels to be treated by me for a week.  Now, we work remotely, or if I’m traveling across the country (as I do twice a year), I can make house calls.  As an acupuncturist, I’m fond of direct hands-on healing.  I can directly work with a client using distance healing, but when available, I like to have their trusted friend or family member do the “touching” part while I do the “healing” part of the remote healing session.  It’s brilliantly neutral!  The friend doesn’t assume they know how to cure cancer, so they can simply move their hands and hold them where I direct them.

Distance healing works well with animals, who can get uncomfortable being away from their homes. I simultaneously train their humans to give a Bengston Method session while I am doing the distance healing.

My most dramatic cure was accomplished in just 2 sessions!  This is highly unusual.  A course of treatment is more likely to involve several treatments a day for months for 4-stage cancer or at least several times a week for less aggressive cancers.  I simply switch my role from being the #1 healer to being the coach to the family.  This way, the patient can get numerous sessions for free, and I can keep them on track.  It gives loved ones something concrete to do that clearly reduces pain and lowers the need for all sorts of medications.  Our patient might get 30 effective treatments, and I only need to be present for one of them.  This rhythm makes my professional fees affordable as I am not the only one doing the work.

I can get almost anyone hypercycling and knowing how to cool down a hot cancerous tumor in the first session. This gives them the much-needed confidence to delve deeper into their technique, and it helps them avoid wasting their time learning a complex procedure that may or may not work.
